Office of Reentry Achieves National Recognition

NACo 2020 Achievement Award

The National Association of Counties (NACo) has granted Hamilton County a 2020 Achievement Award for its program titled “EXIT Pod: Slowing the Jail's Revolving Door Through Community Partners” in the category of Criminal Justice and Public Safety.

The Exit Pod was launched in the spring of 2017 in partnership with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office as a response to overcrowding in the Hamilton County Justice Center. The program creates pre-release plans that connect inmates to community resources prior to release. The goal of the Exit Pod is to ensure successful offender reentry, reduce recidivism and enhance public safety.

NACo President Mary Ann Borgeson said, “We are seeing firsthand now more than ever that counties work tirelessly to support our residents. This year’s Achievement Award-winning programs showcase how counties build healthy, safe and vibrant communities across America.”

Congratulations to the team at the Office of Reentry, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department and all the community partners involved in developing this innovative program! Your hard work will yield positive results for Hamilton County residents.
